Grade II Listed Barn, Henley, Oxon

A renovation of an abandoned Grade II Listed Timber and Flint Barn, dating back to the 17th Century, closed up for many years, simply furnished with cobwebs, junk and dirt.

Listed Building Consent was granted to carefully strip the clay pegged tiles, add a new breather membrane, repair/replace any damaged timber work and reinstate with existing tiles. The oak frames and studwork were cleaned with the flint stonework repaired by a stone mason and repointed in an appropriate lime mortar. As the barn had been built on dirt with no real floor, it was accepted a new floor could be added, to allow the space to be useable and practical. Details and construction of the floor were submitted to the Conservation Department for approval prior to commencement.

The barn has been revived – with its use going forward progressing into a beautiful games room. All elements can now be appreciated and enjoyed – its Listing as a Grade II barn protected and maintained forever more.

A moment inside to think about the life this barn has had, and the pure fun it will create going forwards.
